Match 7: Dindigul Dragons (DD) vs Nellai Royal Kings (NRK).
Date and Time: 30 June 2022 at 3:15 PM IST
In what was a rain curtailed match, the Dragons and the Kings battled it out tooth and nail to provide a result and it was the most entertaining of all the matches happened till now in TNPL 2022. The match which was scheduled to start at 3:15 PM IST had a delayed start due to heavy drizzling causing puddles near the main pitch and the outfield. The match was finally started at 5:35 PM IST with 12 overs-a-side affair between the teams. Dindigul made one change in bringing S Arun for Manoj Kumar and Nellai had one change in Sri Neranjan making way for Pradosh Ranjan Paul. Nellai won the toss and put Dindigul to bat and that caused a backfire to the Nellai bowlers as the Dindigul openers Vishal Vaidhya and captain Hari Nishaanth bludgeoned the Nellai attack. They cut, drove, hovered over the bowlers all around the ground and made a quickfire score of 45 runs in the 4-over powerplay. The partnership was cruising well at 82 runs in 7.2 overs when Sri Neranjan applied brakes on the partnership dismissing Vishal Vaidhya caught by L Suryappprakash. This partnership jittered further when wickets went tumbling and run flow becoming slow with Sri Neranjan taking control of things and returning with figures of 3-0-32-3. Dindigul set Nellai a target of 131 in 12 overs.

Soon, Sri Neranjan was dismissed by K Monish caught by Vishal Vaidhya at deep square leg and that was the last good memory for the Dragons. Then the duo of Baba Aparajith and Sanjay Yadav joined hands and ensured that the Dragons learned the lesson the hard way. While Sanjay Yadav took on the spinners and bashed them for over the stands, Aparajith dealt with the pacers and hit only when it needed and mostly rotated strike to Sanjay Yadav who was in form. Sanjay Yadav hit the joint fastest TNPL half century in 15 balls. The Kings reached the target in 11 overs and pocked 2 more points to their points table and stayed atop the points table. Sanjay Yadav also pocketed the Ather Orange and Purple Cap after this match.

S Radhakrishnan and U Sasidev open the account for Chepauk Super Gillies.
Match 12: Chepauk Super Gillies (CSG) vs Ruby Trichy Warriors (RTW).
Date and Time: 06 July 2022 at 7:15 PM IST
The clash of the titans happened at the prestigious NPR College grounds in Dindigul with the latter waiting to avenge their loss to the defending champions in the finals last year. Ruby Trichy Warriors won the toss and opted to bowl first. They made two changes in N Niranjan coming in for M Vijay and Santosh Shiv coming in for Anthony Dhas. Chepauk made two changes in S Radhakrishnan and Sai Kishore coming in for S Sujay and Jaganath Sinivas. Chepauk openers Jagadeesan and Kaushik Gandhi made their way to the middle to start from where they left in the last match. Both the openers started positively with a 25 run partnership when the best bowler from RTW, Ajay Krishna, came and removed Kaushik Gandhi caught comfortably by Muhammad Adnan Khan. S Radhakrishnan, one of the prominent batter of CSG, made his way to the middle and didn’t wait for things to get settled. His positive approach did work for the CSG men who were on a roll in the flow of runs. After a brief partnership of 33 with Radhakrishnan, Jagadeesan was castled by Rahil Shah with a quicker delivery. Now, the real hunt started for the men in red and gold with U Sasidev joining hands with Radhakrishnan and the duo were active in keeping the scoreboard ticking with flow of runs happening and boundaries hit with more flair and style. M Poiyamozhi and M Mathivannan were the victims of the duo who were taken for runs the most and had their day off. The duo stitched a partnership of 117 runs in 65 balls and at this stage, Ajay Krishna came back for his hunt and removed the in-form Radhakrishnan by taking his stumps for a walk in the park. R Satish came in and joined Sasidev and blew some shots from his willow when Poiyamozhi was introduced. He first removed R Satish caught by Santosh Shiv, next dismissed Harish Kumar caught by Mathivannan and topped it with a hat-trick removing Sonu Yadav caught by the same Mathivannan and registered the first hat-trick of TNPL 2022!!!. Later Ajay Krishna removed Sasidev and M Siddharth in the span of 9 runs in 5 balls and CSG finished with 203/8 in 20 overs. Ajay Krishna returned with figures of 3/33 and Poiyamozhi with 3/60.

In came the RTW openers Santosh Shiv and Amit Sathvik pursuit of the big chase of 204 and started their innings with a bang on performance. Santosh Shiv survived a scare when he was castled the first ball of the second over by Sandeep Warrier only later to be the decision re-turned as a no-ball. He utilised the second chance given to him and went on against the CSG bowlers slashing them for skyscrapers and tracer bullets to the fence. Amit Sathvik also joined the party and played his part and the duo built a partnership of 87 runs in 59 runs when Amit Sathvik was castled by R Alexander. The downfall for RTW started after this wicket when the batters who followed didn’t contribute except for Adithya Ganesh who scored 28 (19) and Santosh Shiv who soon was dismissed by S Harish Kumar on 59(38). Harish Kumar was the standout bowler for CSG with figures of 4-0-25-3. R Alexander partnered with Harish Kumar to return with figures of 3-0-19-2. The revenge for RTW still stands against CSG for their loss in 2021 finals!!!

Date and Time: 07 July 2022 at 7:15 PM IST
In what was a virtual match for elimination if lost for the Dindigul Dragons, they took on the mighty Madurai Panthers who were on the back of two wins and were aiming for a hat-trick of wins. Madurai Panthers captain NS Chaturved won the toss and put the Dragons to bat first. Madurai had two changes in Rithik Easwaran and Vignesh Iyer coming in for K Rajkumar and Thalaivan Sargunam. Mani Bharathy joined hands with captain Hari Nishaanth and they built the score for the Dragons with a 48 ball 51 run partnership when Mani Bharathi was run out by Rithik Easwaran off an overthrow from Suny Sandhu. Review of the Dindigul Leg: The pitches at the NPR College ground were belters and we expected for leather hunt from every team who played here, but disappointingly we had just two matches wherein the teams capitalized on the conditions and played to the pitch which offered. But the bowling of the teams deserve an applause as none of the matches were a one sided contest and even though low scores happened, the defense of the low scores was executed with full heart and energy, specially topped up with a hat-trick from the RTW bowler Poiyamozhi. The battle of the teams is heating up and the race for the playoffs would be sealed when the bandwagon is moving to Coimbatore with the matches starting at 3:15 PM on July 10. Let’s all meet at the other end of the Coimbatore leg.
