India:
Despite having an upper hand in head-to-head matchup, it's India who will require a special effort in order to win the game against South Africa and book a semifinal spot for themselves. The senior guns like Mithali Raj and Jhulan Goswami will have to step their hands up in this big game. They will also expect Harmanpreet Kaur and Yastika Bhatia to continue their good run. Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma would be required to give an explosive start. Sneh Rana bagged 4 wickets against Bangladesh and India would want her to continue the same way. Rajeshwari Gayakwad would be expected to make an impact yet again.
Probable XI: Smriti Mandhana, Shafali Verma, Yastika Bhatia, Mithali Raj (C), Harmanpreet Kaur, Richa Ghosh (WK), Sneh Rana, Pooja Vastrakar, Jhulan Goswami, Rajeshwari Gayakwad, Meghna Singh.
South Africa:
Along with Australia, they have confirmed their semifinal berth. They will walk into this game with an intention to assert their dominance as another win here will give a tremendous boost to their confidence. They will look to fix their batting woes as they were put in a spot of bother by the Windies bowlers in the rain affected match where both these sides had to be content with a point each.
Probable XI: Lizelle Lee, Laura Wolvaardt, Tazmin Brits, Sune Luus (C), Mignon du Preez, Marizanne Kapp, Chloe Tryon, Trisha Chetty (WK), Shabnim Ismail, Ayabonga Khaka, Tumi Sekhukhune.
Pitch Report
The surface at Hagley Oval has something for both the batters as well as the bowlers. The new ball comes onto the bat nicely which makes the job of openers even more crucial while the surface tends to get slow in the middle overs where the bowlers come into play with a window to make merry.
Weather Forecast
A washed-out game will directly take the Indian women to the semis but that doesn't seem to happen with the weather expected to be humid throughout the day with little to no chances of rain.
Semifinal Qualification Scenarios
There are just two games left in the league stage which will be held on the 27th of March as follows:
England v Bangladesh 3:30am IST
India v South Africa 6:30am IST
- Australia and South Africa have officially qualified for the semis.
- India, West Indies and England fight for the remaining two spots.
- New Zealand are also mathematically in the race but for all practical purposes they are out of the competition. They would want England and India to lose their games by huge margins for them to qualify.
- If England manages to beat Bangladesh, they will qualify officially.
- If India manages to beat South Africa, they will qualify officially.
- If either of England or India lose, West Indies will qualify officially.
- Either of India or England will qualify based on net run rate alongside West Indies if both of them go on to lose their last game by a not so extremely heavy margin. In case they both lose their game by an extremely heavy margin, New Zealand will make it through alongside West Indies.
- England and India will officially qualify if their games are washed out.
- If England wins and India loses, India will be knocked out of the tournament with England and West Indies making it through.
- If England loses and India wins, England will be knocked out of the tournament with India and West Indies making it through.
