CATCH ITTTTT, STOP ITTTTT, WIN ITTTTT!!!!!!
Well, the title looks weird??? That was the story yesterday of both the sides which met at the Chepauk stadium. One had the issues in the first word while the other excelled in the second and docked points to it. Still confused, let's get into the post match review of yesterday’s TNPL match between DD and RTW.
Dindigul won the toss and elected to field first. Both the teams had an unchanged squad from their last games and were vying to keep them atop the points table. Amit Sathvik and Sumant Jain opened the batting for RTW while R Sutesh opened the bowling for Dindigul. Sutesh had an early chance to dismiss Sumant Jain but the appeal was turned down by the umpire. L Vignesh started his first over with a no-ball offering a free hit to the opposition. The free hit was kind of used not wisely by Sumant Jain, having the ball inside edged and racing away to the boundary. There was a run out scare in the 3rd over when Gurjapneet Singh threw at the non-striker’s end with Sutesh missing to collect the ball and a bowled chance missing the stumps very closely. The DD bowlers were literally choking the openers with their spells and not allowing them to free themselves hitting boundaries with ease. But Sumant Jain heard what the DD bowlers had in their mind and dispatched one to the stands off Gurjapneet Singh’s first over. The RTW ended the powerplay on 35/0.
Gurjapneet Singh came back after the PP got over only to dismiss the star batter of RTW, Amit Sathvik with a stunning catch by Mokit Hariharan. Nidish Rajagopal joined Sumant Jain in the middle and Sumant welcomed spinner Swaminathan with a four off his very first ball in the innings. Swaminathan returned his favour by foxing Sumant with a quick delivery only to ask him come outside and get stumped by keeper Mani Bharathy. Muhammad Adnan Khan joined Nidish in the middle and the duo kept the scoreboard ticking. A chance to dismiss Adnan Khan came in the 13th over only to be missed by a fumble from Mokit Hariharan. Adnan acknowledged the chance and hit a towering six and dispatched one to the fence.
The duo raised their 50-run partnership with both playing equal roles in rotating the strike and hitting boundaries with aplomb. The 3rd over of Sutesh saw him pressurising his own side by bowling 4 wides and offering a six to be hit by Adnan Khan. Adnan Khana was finally dismissed by R Vivek when he holed out to Mokit Hariharan, catching it comfortably. Anthony Dhas joined Nidish Rajagopal. Both Nidish and Anthony found it difficult to hit boundaries and only 1 or 2 boundaries came, the rest being controlled ferociously by the DD bowlers. Gurjapneet Singh finally uprooted the middle stump of Nidish dismissing him for 45 runs. Saravan Kumar joined Anthnoy Dhas and struck two beautiful fours. Anthony Dhas dispatched one to the stands in the final over before being caught by keeper Mani Bharathy off Sutesh bowling. RTW finished on 145/5 in 20 overs albeit 15 wides gifted by the DD bowlers.
S Arun and Hari Nishanth started the proceedings for DD in the second innings with Sunil Sam opening the bowling for RTW. Arun took on Saravan Kumar and dispatched him for a neat four to the fence off his first over. Cap Hari Nishanth took care of Sunil Sam and treated him with proper care dispatching him for two rockets to the fence and Sunil himself gifting DD 3 wides. RTW captain Rahil Shah and medium pacer Poiyamozhi came into the PP and tried to control the run flow but couldn't do anything. At the end of Powerplay, DD were 50/0.
Hari Nishanth took stride and dispatched consecutive fours off spinner Mathivannan immediately after the powerplay. Rahil Shah finally broke the 67-run partnership of the duo by rattling off the stumps of S Arun. Hari Nishanth soon followed Arun to the pavilion by getting dismissed off a rash shot of Mathivannan holing out to Anthony Dhas at long on. New batters S Lokeshwar and Mokit Hariharan were in the middle and were in charge of building up a partnership and taking the team past the finish line. Rahil Shah soon picked out Lokeshwar with a stunning catch by Nidish Rajagopal at short covers. Mani Bharathy, star of the last match, joined Mokit in the middle.

There was a chance for Rahil Shah to pick his wicket only to be betrayed by his fielders allowing the ball to sail to the fence. The chance given to Mokit was utilised perfectly by dispatching one to the stands off the penultimate ball of Rahil Shah. Poiyamozhi soon came and dismissed the danger man Mani Bharathy with a slow ball comfortably caught by Rahil Shah. Vivek Raj joined Mokit in the middle and he also contributed little to the chase albeit misfields by the RTW team. Mokit on the other hand, utilised his opportunity and hit boundaries at intervals to ensure the chase was done without further hiccups. But Vivek was uprooted by Poiyamozhi in his final over and Swaminathan joined Mokit in the middle and helped him by dispatching some to the fence and ensuring DD jumped from 7th to 2nd in the points table with the win.
