UNCAPPED MAKE THE DIFFERENCE
When opportunity knocks the door, grab it with both hands and make use of the same. This was the story of yesterday’s TNPL match between Ruby richy Warriors and IDream Tiruppur Tamizhans where the uncapped players stepped up to the occasion and delivered what they had to, a win for their team.
Ruby Trichy Warriors won the toss and elected to field. There were few changes to the teams, RTW having a change in bringing extra batter in K Mukunth and resting Sunil Sam; Idream Tiruppur having change in Mohd Ashik giving way for S Dinesh.
S Dinesh and S Siddharth opened the batting for the ITT side, whereas the captain Rahil Shah for RTW started the proceedings in bowling by himself. The openers literally struggled with hitting runs as the RTW bowlers kept things tight with their approach and the ball swung haphazardly. The struggle was finally broken when Saravana Kumar swung one to the outside off stump which edged Siddharth’s bat and was neatly caught by K Mukunth. Tushar aheja joined Dinesh in the middle and the duo capitalised on the start and hit few blows to the fence and over to the stands before Tushar was dismissed by Poiyamozhi off his first ball in the innings caught comfortably by keeper Adithya Ganesh and he didn’t stop there. Next came Maan Bafna and he too walked back the same way to the pavilion as he was dismissed off a nippy bouncer easily offered to Amit Sathvik. The team was in tatters and were really waiting for an opportunity to bounce back. Aswin Crist joined Dinesh in the middle.
The duo tried to build a partnership and kept the scoreboard ticking by rotating the strike before Dinesh was dismissed by Akash Sumra in his second spell caught by keeper Adithya Ganesh. Wickets were tumbling for the ITT side art intervals and the momentum to build partnership was never going on until captain M Mohammed and S Aravind came into the middle. The duo stitched a partnership of 33, both equally contributing with rotating the strike and finding the boundaries at intervals. ITT finished on 110/8 in 20 overs, the third lowest score in the 2021 edition.
Next came in the RTW openers Amit Sathvik and K Mukunth. Spinner Mohan Prasath started the bowling for RTW. Amit Sathvik hit the first ball of the second innings to third man, cutting through the fielder. He was dismissed off the last ball of the first over caught by Rajkumar. Nidish Rajagopal joined Mukunth in the middle and both of them found boundaries at intervals, one edging Thamarai Kannan to the fence and the other of Mohan Prasath. Mohan Prasath followed the same pattern of his first over and dismissed Mukunth in the last ball of his second over. He read figures of 2-0-8-2 in his first 2 overs. Adnan Khan joined Nidish Rajagopal in the middle.
The duo of Adnan Khan and Nidish tried to stitch a small partnership before M Mohammed came and dismissed Adnan Khan with a stunning catch by Aswin Crist. Nidish was joined by the southpaw and wicket keeper Adithya Ganesh. The duo never turned back and accelerated the innings. They slashed, cut, hit, hoisted and ensured the target was well within reach without any hiccups. ITT bowlers tried their best to control things but they could not do so in the end. Poor batting and lack of partnership building hurt the ITT side a lot. With this win, RTW climbed to the top of the ladder and sitting there like a king.
