The super 12 game between Australia and Ireland is essential for both teams as they will be fighting for 2 precious points. The team which loses this game is virtually out of the tournament.
OVERVIEW
AUSTRALIA: Australia has never made justice to their ‘Favourites' tag in this tournament. For them to qualify, they have to win their remaining 2 games and win them handsomely. But that is not impossible because they have Ireland and Afghanistan to play. Australia's bowling is not a big concern but they really have to rethink about Cummins the T20 bowler. In their batting department though, their captain is proving to be a big liability for them as Stoinis batted out of his skin against Sri Lanka to win the game. This is the game where Warner can get back into his rhythm. Australia has some selection issues as their keeper Mathew Wade tested positive for Covid. If ICC declares him unfit to play, either Warner or Finch will keep wickets. Adam Zampa has fully recovered and is expected to replace Ashton Agar.
IRELAND: Ireland is also coming off from a washed-out game, in which they would consider themselves unlucky as they fancied winning against Afghanistan. But their earlier win against England has given them a small but unlikely hope to qualify for the semis, by beating Australia and New Zealand in consecutive games. Both their batters and bowlers have shared an equal amount of success in this tournament and they will look to make the most of their remaining games.
