FOUR INTO THE FORAY
On a Chepauk pitch which had been laid for the batters to take the reins, it looked the opposite and reminded of the days of CSK where the spinners ruled the roost. And it did rule yesterday when a CSK product spun it’s web around the opposition and cleaned things and set up a sizzling win. Let's head to the post match review between CSG and DD.
Dindigul Dragons won the toss and elected to field first. There were changes to the CSG side, by bringing in their strong players this year, Sai Kishore and Sandeep Warrier in for R Alexander and S Radhakrishnan. Dindigul remained unchanged.
Openers Jagadeesan and captain Kaushik Gandhi started for CSG and R Sutesh opened the bowling attack for Dindigul. The openers started slow and banged each to the stands off the second over bowled by L Vignesh. The duo ensured that every over there was a boundary hit, be it slashing to the fence or hoisting to the stands. The duo put 67 runs on the board without loss of wicket at the end of powerplay. Kaushik Gandhi was dismissed 5 short of his first half century this season by L Vignesh in his second spell rattling K Gandhi’s stumps and making it go for a walk. Sonu Yadav joined Jagadeesan in the middle and the new duo tapped and kept the scoreboard ticking before Mokit Hariharan came and castled Sonu Yadav easily caught by L Vignesh. U Saisdev joined Jagadeesan in the middle.
Jagadeesan was consistent and was finding gaps to clear the fence and hoist to the stands while Sasidev gave good support to Jagadeesan. But Jagadeesan soon fell to M Silambarsan, caught comfortably by keeper Mani Bharathy. R Satish joined Sasidev in the middle and the 14th over for Silambarasan was a wicket maiden over!!! Satish and Sasidev tried to accelerate and hit some boundaries before Silambarasan came back to claim the wicket of R Satish caught by Gurjapneet Singh. All rounder Harish Kumar joined Sasidev and they kept the scoreboard ticking until the 18th over bowled by R Sutesh came. Harish Kumar crashed one to the fence and got out soon caught by Mokit Hariharan at the longest part of the boundary. Jaganath Sinivas followed Harish and got run out albeit a confusion with Harish Kumar, a bullseye shot from keeper Mani Bharathy dismantling the stumps. Sasidev after a few blows got run out and R Sutesh finished CSG innings with a six to the stands and CSG ended on 159/7 after 20 overs.
Next came the DD openers Hari Nishaanth and S Arun. Just like CSG, the DD openers slowly paced their innings and found boundaries at intervals. Nishaanth took on Sai Kishore and hit a six off the second over of the innings. S Arun took on Sonu Yadav and banged three to the fence off his first over.He was soon run out albeit a good coordination from Sonu Yadav and Jagadeesan. R Srinivasan joined Hari Nishaanth in the middle and the duo tapped, cut, sliced, hit boundaries at intervals. Just when the duo reached their 50 run partnership, Sai Kishore came back to trouble them and picked the big fish Hari Nishaanth. R Srinivasan soon followed Hari to the pavilion, caught by Jagadeesan off Harish Kumar. Post these two wickets, the downfall of Dindigul Dragons started despite humongous efforts from Mani Bharathy and Vivek Raj hitting some monstrous sixes and slicing through to the fence at intervals.
Sai Kishore ensured that whatever he learnt while being in SL with Dravid would be put to the best use and bamboozled the Dindigul setup. He was the key in picking 4 wickets with 30 runs and ensured Dindigul choked big time and lost the game by 24 runs and lose 2 points to their tally.
