Heart beats pumping up every second, set batters on strike, decisive over to be bowled, tension gripping on both sides, bowler takes the ball, reades himself to bowl the over, applies pressure on and BOOM!!, the winner is announced. It was a fairytale ride yesterday at the MA Chidambaram Stadium where the Never say Never attitude prevailed in every nook and corner of the stadium. Hearts rejoiced on one side, while the hearts broke, unable to form again on the other side. A thriller of a match prevail between the underdogs and the masters in the tournament, let’s now head to the post match review.
Ruby Trichy Warriors won the toss and elected to field first. Both the squads remained unchanged. The finals started with the National Anthem sung as part of the 75th Independence Day of India and the finalists along with the on-field umpires and the match referee assembled in the ground. Openers Jagadeesan and captain Kaushik Gandhi started for CSG while Sunil Sam opened the bowling for Ruby Trichy Warriors. The duo from CSG tapped some runs before Jagadeesan broke the shackles in the second over, slashing a cover drive to the fence. The next ball also went for a boundary albeit an overthrow by Mathivannan and a misfield at the boundary by Sunil Sam. Kaushik Gandhi broke his shackles and hoisted over covers to the fence off Sunil Sam in the 3rd over.
The duo kept tapping runs and finding boundaries at intervals hitting over long on, long off and through covers. The duo registered their 50 run partnership in 29 balls. Jagadeesan got a reprive on 26 when a slow deceptive ball bowled by Poiyamozhi was dropped by Muhammad Adnan Khan at covers. Poiyamozhi struck back removing Kaushik Gandhi with a slower peach rattling his stumps. CSG ended the powerplay on 58/1. Jagdeesan was joined by Radhakrishnan in the middle. The duo tapped some runs before Jagadeesan smashed one to the fence off Mathivannan in the straight boundary. L Balaji joined in the live of the final via video call from UAE CSK camp. Anthony Dhas came in the 10th over and dismissed Radhakrishnan caught by Mathivannan. Sasidev joined Jagadeesan in the middle.
The duo ensured the scoreboard was kept ticking by rotating the strike. Jagdeesan reached his half century in 37 balls. Jagadeesan and Sasidev frustrated the RTW bowlers with boundaries at intervals and rotating the strike. Jagadeesan, specially tormented Saravana Kumar who castled him with aplomb in the Qualifier 1 with the ball finding the fence twice in the 14th over. Just as the partnership was developing, Rahil Shah applied brakes by dismissing Sasidev caught by Saravana Kumar. R Satish joined Jagadeesan in the middle.
Satish soon started the momentum smashing Rahil Shah to the straight boundary. The duo of Jagadeesan and Satish kept the scoreboard ticking before Satish hoisted a monstrous six off Rahil Shah in the 16th over. He was dismissed the next ball caught stunningly by Mathivannan at long on. Harish Kumar joined Jagadeesan in the middle. Jagadeesan broke the shackles by hoisting two over the stands over long on and deep midwicket. He fell 10 short of his century, caught by Mathivannan off Poiyamozhi. Sonu Yadav joined Harish Kumar in the middle.The duo hoisted a flat six and one monstrous six over long on off Saravana Kumar in the penultimate over. Sonu Yadav finished the proceeding with two fours in the final over and Adithya Ganesh running out Harish Kumar with CSG ending on 183/6 in 20 overs.
Next came the RTW openers Amit Sathvik and Santosh Shiv with Siddharth opening the bowling for CSG. The openers showed what they were of; lambasting the CSG bowlers with aplomb targeting every boundary of the ground. The duo were building a great partnership when Sonu Yadav came and broke their partnership dismissing Santosh Shiv caught and bowled. Nidish Rajagopal joined in the middle. Amit Sathvik tormented the CSG spin duo of Siddharth and Sai Kishore before he was dismissed by Sonu Yadav caught by Alexander. Anthony Dhas joined Nidish Rajagopal in the middle.
The duo tapped some runs in the middle before Anthony Dhas broke the shackles by dispatching one to the fence off Sai Kishore but was dismissed the next ball caught by Siddharth. Adithya Ganesh joined Nidish Rajagopal in the middle. The duo tapped some runs before Nidish slapped one hard to the fence off B Arun. Adithya Ganesh dealt Satish the same way before Nidish was dismissed by Satish caught by Sonu Yadav. Muhammad Adnan Khan joined Adithya Ganesh in the middle.
But soon, Adithya Ganesh went back to the pavilion dismissed by B Arun caught by Sasidev. Saravana Kumar joined Adnan Khan in the middle. The duo tapped some runs before R Alexander came and dismissed Adnan Khan with a stunning return catch. Mathivannan joined Saravana Kumar in the middle. The duo struggled a bit before Saravana Kumar hoisted one off Siddharth over long off.
He continued the same in Harish Kumar's first over with back to back boundaries. Mathivannan joined Saravana Kumar in the party and both tormented the CSG bowlers with hits to the fence and over the stands. The duo raised their 50 run partnership in 29 balls. Harish Kumar finally castled Mathivannan, rattling his stumps. Poiyamozhi joined Saravana Kumar in the middle. Just when the match was going out of control, Saravana Kumar gained all his confidence and tormented the CSG bowlers. He ensured the target was well within reach and that he needs to up the ante for his poor outing with the ball in the first innings. But things didn’t turn out the way it has to be as Sai Kishore bowled the decisive final over giving away just 4 runs and sealing the deal.
