A spirited comeback from the Indian bowlers meant that India is ahead in the game after the day one.
It was an enthralling day of test cricket at Trent bridge. It had everything. Beautiful drives, grit from the England batsmen. Relentlessness from the Indian bowlers. However, India are certainly in the driver's seat at the end of day one.
TOSS, THE ONLY LOSS
India lost the toss and were invited to bowl first by the England captain. It happened to be the only loss for India in the day. Indian bowlers were constantly causing troubles straightaway and the England batters just looked completely lost.
INDIAN PACERS PARTY
After dismissing Rory Burns and Zak Crawley early in the day, India got a slight upper hand in the first session. They dismissed Dominic Sibley soon. But Jonny Bairstow joined his captain and was involved in a crucial 72-runs partnership for the fourth wicket.
England seemed to be going good with 128/3 at one stage. That's when Mohammed Shami bowled a spirited spell in which he trapped Bairstow lbw just before the tea break.
The dismissal just opened the floodgates for India, as post tea session was dominated by them. Joe Root seemed to be the only batsman who could withstand the Indian bowlers. But Shardul dismissed him and provided a big blow.
Though Sam Curran was on for a launchpad, he was left stranded as Bumrah dismissed Anderson to end the England's first innings for a paltry total of 183. It was a collective effort from the Indian pace quartet.

JOE ROOT, THE RECORD BREAKER
Joe Root in his stay at the crease looked almost flawless. He brought up his 50th fifty in tests. He surpassed Alastair Cook to become the highest international runs getter for England. He got there in just 366 innings.

ROHIT AND RAHUL SURVIVE
Indian openers in their brief stay has ensured that India remain in the driver's seat in the game. The duo has batted for 13 overs and scored 21 runs without getting themselves dismissed.
They faced the likes of James Anderson, Stuart Broad, Sam Curran and Ollie Robinson and have negated them successfully so far. India would be hoping to build on from the start they've got, while England would be looking for some quick wickets.
