Both the teams playing their final league game where a win will keep them alive in the tournament (not for long though)
OVERVIEW:
PAKISTAN : Pakistan played the tournament in the Pakistani way as they were baffled by Zimbabwe and after a few days later, they comprehensively defeated South Africa, the unbeaten team in the tournament. They played two really close games to start with, in which they ended on the wrong side both times. The one positive thing from those two games is that they lost them with small margins, which is eventually keeping them alive till now. Pakistan is the more fancied team out of the two but they have an unusual problem to rectify. Babar Azam is the only non-performing skipper in this tournament. To sum up their tournament in their style of play, they started the tournament with middle order issue but they’ll go back with top order issues. The few results which Pakistan wanted to go in their way in order to qualify are:
- Netherlands beating South Africa or the game getting washed out. (SA will have 6 points and better NRR than Pakistan, but lesser wins)
- Beat Bangladesh by any margin and get to six points.
- If South Africa win, hope Zimbabwe beat India (India will be stuck at 6 points and get eliminated due to inferior NRR to Pakistan)
BANGLADESH: Bangladesh will be really disappointed after the 5 run loss to India. They had few complaints on the playing conditions and fielding violations but a loss is inevitable. They will consider this tournament as a successful one because they got their first ever victory in the second round of the tournament after several attempts. Taskin with the ball and Liton Das with the bat is their positive in the tournament. Experienced players like Mustafizur and Shakib looked off colour through out the tournament. They were placed in a similar situation in the 2019 WC, as they played their final league game against Pakistan with a chance of knocking them out. They still have an outside chance but an unlikely one as they have to get better of a spirited Pakistan side.
