After the one-sided Test series, South Africa and West Indies will shift their focus to the five match T20 International series which is set to begin from Saturday, 26 June at the National Cricket Stadium in Grenada.
With the T20 World Cup looming both sides will fancy this preparation to get their unanswered questions with regards to their potential best eleven sorted. On one hand, the Proteas have not been at their best in this format having lost their last five series including the recent to Pakistan both at home and away. However, West Indies have been enjoying life in the T20 format winning three out of their last five series.
The Carribbean side is boosted with the return of their stalwarts and big hitters such as, Andre Russell, Chris Gayle, Nicholas Pooran and Dwayne Bravo while the Proteas have all their mainstay players who missed the Pakistan series back apart from Faf du Plessis.
"The confidence from the group is very good. We have all our senior players back. We have the most exciting T20 players in the world back together in one team. A lot of teams would love a team like this - players like this. We had good practice sessions." - Nicholas Pooran told the media.
Wiaan Mulder who was originally only a part of the Test squad, has joined the T20 contingent as a replacement for Dwaine Pretorius who tested positive for Covid-19 and left arm seamer, Beuran Hendricks has also stayed behind.
"I am happy that I'm fit and ready for the upcoming T20I series", said Temba Bavuma who was unfortunate to miss the Test series due to a hip injury and then a dislocated finger.
"Quite a number of those Test guys are involved in the T20 stuff so I think it's only natural we'll carry that confidence into this T20I series." - Bavuma added.
In the two matches that the West Indies played against South Africa at home, they've lost both and they will be looking to rectify that matter. Although, in the last five matches, Windies have had the upper hand winning three of those.
The lone time a T20I match was held in Grenada, Ireland and West Indies amassed over 400 runs combined. The ground is definitely suited for batters but with inclement weather around we'll have to wait and see.
