The Capitals from Delhi would be facing the Super Kings from the Chennai at the Dr. Y.S.Rajashekar Reddy ACA-VDCA International Cricket Stadium at Vishakapatnam. A Sunday blockbuster would end with two good teams vying to pocket two points to their kitty and move up the table.
Probable XI:
Dehil Capitals: David Warner*, Mitchell Marsh*, Ricky Bhui / Prithvi Shaw, Rishabh Pant (C & WK), Tristan Stubbs*, Abhishek Porel, Axar Patel, Khaleel Ahmed, Kuldeep Yadav, Anrich Nortje*, Mukesh Kumar
Impact Subs: Jake Fraser McGurk / Kumar Kushagra.
Chennai Super Kings: Rachin Ravindra*, Ruturaj Gaikwad (C), Ajinkya Rahane, Shivam Dube, Daryll Mitchell*, Sameer Rizvi, Ravindra Jadeja, MS Dhoni (WK), Deepak Chahar, Mustafizur Rahman*, Matheesha Pathirana*
Impact Subs: Mukesh Choudhary / Shaik Rasheed
Delhi Capitals are reeling at the bottom of the table with no points pocketed and would be raring to go and ensure they defeat the defending champions at their new home at Vishakapatnam. They have had conundrums in their batting and have not used the most costliest uncapped buy in Kumar Kushagra and also their swashbuckling opener in Prithivi Shaw. Ricky Ponting said, “We would see how Shaw performs at the nets and would then take a call”. Seriously? The over love and affection for Aussies is increasing day by day for Ponting and if he brings in Kushagra and Shaw, then there would be a good balance in the lineup and the batting can rake up runs more.
Chennai Super Kings, on the other hand, are coming at the back of 2 comfortable victories and would be waiting for to maintain the streak and be at the top of the table. They have had good strength both in the bowling and batting and have been doing really great without sweating it more. There might be no changes except if the players are going for national duty and the team has been stacked in such a way that there would be no imbalance.
Weather and Pitch Report:
Vishakapatnam is a conventional pitch for IPL where batters have an edge over bowlers. Despite a favourable pitch for high scores, the stadium has not witnessed many 200+ scores in IPL matches. A total of 13 IPL matches have been played at the venue, out of which, 7 have been won by teams who chose to go for bowling first.
The highest score at Dr Y.S.Rajashekar Reddy ACA-VDCA International Cricket Stadium is 206/4 which was attained by Mumbai Indians against Delhi Capitals in 2016. The average first-inning score of matches held at this stadium is 158 and average second-inning score is 131. Interestingly, no batter has been able to score an IPL century at this stadium. In LSG’s first match ever at the Ekana, they scored 193/6 against Delhi Capitals (DC) in IPL 2023, thanks to a fantastic debut by Kyle Mayers (73 off 38 balls). It is the highest IPL score in an innings at the venue. The only fifer here was by Mark Wood in the DC match.
At the time of beginning of the match, the temperature is likely to remain at around 30 degrees in the city. There is hardly any chance of rain regardless of extreme humidity at 78%.
Stats Corner:
- Chennai and Delhi have faced each other in 29 matches in IPL. Out of these 29 games, Chennai have won 19 whereas Delhi have come out victorious on 10 occasions.
- MOST RUNS IN DC vs CSK IPL MATCHES: MS Dhoni with 629 runs at a S/R of 140.40.
- Only 13 IPL matches have been played at today’s ground so far, with 7 of them being won while batting second, without any no results. The average first innings total here is 158.
Players to Watch out for:
Ravindra Jadeja vs David Warner:
These two have come across each other in 6 innings so far in the IPL. Warner has never been dismissed by Jadeja in the IPL yet, and in the 58 balls that Warner has received from Jadeja, he has scored a whopping 101 runs. If DC's misfiring batting has to have any hope, Warner will need to keep up his strike rate of 174.13 against Jadeja.
Axar Patel vs Ruturaj Gaikwad:
The newly appointed CSK skipper has faced 40 balls across 6 innings from Patel. He has scored 58 runs at a strike rate of 145 while being dismissed just once. Gaikwad's good record against spin in general will also be useful to CSK against DC's potent spin attack.
