SEDDON PARK, HAMILTON
6.30AM IST, 22nd MARCH 2022
Three weeks ago, nobody expected this clash to be a mouth watering one but India’s average run along with Bangladesh's ability to fight till the end so far in this tournament has made it happen.
INDIA’S CAMPAIGN: India has had a topsy-turvy campaign so far, as they’ve had equal share of good as well as bad performances. Two huge wins against Pakistan and West Indies have been overshadowed by a heart breaking loss against Australia in their recent game along with two huge losses against England and New Zealand. They’re still placed at no.4 in the points table because of their healthy net run rate.
BANGLADESH'S CAMPAIGN: For a team which has qualified for the first time in a World Cup event, the performance and the fight shown by them is really appreciable. They defeated Pakistan and they almost won a nail-bitter against West Indies where they fell short by a mere 4 runs .
POSITIVES & DISAPPOINTMENTS :
- Harmanpreet’s return to form has been a real boost as she is the leading run scorer for India (256) with an impressive strike rate of 99.61.
- Mandhana & Bhatia combination seems to have work for them but Shaifali Verma’s dip in form would be a huge concern .
- Mithali Raj is also having a below par tournament as per her standards (114 runs @22.80 with a S.R. of 55). Her inability to accelerate after getting set is costing some extra runs for India.
- Fargana Houqe and Nigar Sultana has taken the responsibility at number of occasions and scored the bulk of their runs (154 runs @38.50 and 111 runs @27.75 respectively)
- Pooja Vastrakar (8) and Salma Khatun (5) have shone with the ball for their teams and both of them have produced a P.O.T.M performance.
QUALIFICATION SCENARIOS FOR INDIA:
- Should win their remaining games against Bangladesh & South Africa and expect West Indies or England to lose one of their game so that their net run rate doesn’t matter as it’ll only get better if they win.
- If they fail to win any one of their games, then they would hope for West Indies to lose both their games and for England to lose one.
QUALIFICATION SCENARIOS FOR BANGLADESH :
- Win all their remaining games which are against India, Australia & England so that they reach 8 points and hope that only two teams get to 8 points where Bangladesh qualify with a superior net run rate which happens to be quite unreal but is not impossible.
