West Indies take on Bangladesh in the 11th match of Super 12 at Sharjah today. This is going to be the third match for both the teams in Super 12 and a clear eliminator from the World Cup. England destroyed the batting line-up of defending champions, West Indies in their opening match and South Africa successfully plummeted them whilst the heroics of Aiden Markram and Rassie Van Der Dussen while Bangladesh failed to defend both against Sri Lanka and England.
OVERVIEW
WEST INDIES:- The defending champions of the ICC T20 World Cup are finding it difficult to fix the jigsaw puzzle of their team and are clueless despite having a side which is considered brutal in batting and magicians in bowling. But despite their players adapting to the UAE conditions by playing in the IPL, the results they have been producing never even satisfy us. The big concern of Simmons playing a douchy knock at the top hurts them big time and they don’t have an ally who can support Evin Lewis. Evin Lewis looked rusty initially in the last match but later went all guns blazing. Chris Gayle, the Universe boss, has ran out of gas and the lower middle order has not been able to achieve what they have to. Their low targets put humpty pressure on their bowling department and they are fragmented to pieces which is difficult to find and rejig it. The addition of Jason Holder for the injured Obed McCoy would kind of relieve the Caribbeans but that would also depend on how much he contributes.
BANGLADESH:- The tigers from the nation of Bangladesh put their heart out after a stunning defeat at the hands of Scotland in the qualifiers and came back all guns blazing to book a spot in the Super 12. But the sole responsibility of taking this team forward has been mounted on Shakib Al Hasan, Mahmadullah and little contribution from Mushfiqur Rahim while the remaining fail to even converge at a point to help take the forward together. The confidence of a series win against New Zealand and Australia has literally misguided them and now their batting is looking fragile with no stealthy contribution at the top. Liton Das has been an absolute upset for the team and the impeccably low targets being set has put tremendous pressure on their bowling unit who are maxing out to ensure they take the game deep for the opposition.
Players to watch out:
Shakib Al Hasan: The greatest all-rounder in the world in this format is the backbone of Bangladesh side. He contributes with both bat and ball every time. For Bangladesh, Shakib has won the last 4 Man of the Match award. His performance in Round 1 and the opening Super 12 game was exceptional. He has been carrying the team when needed and would be a dangerous customer once set in the field.
Evin Lewis: The man from Trinidad is a player to reckon. His no-watch sixers with aplomb are a treat to watch and his confidence in clearing the ropes gives more strength to the team. He has been in fiery form from the CPL, carried it to the IPL for Rajasthan franchise and now is gunning for the national side.
Injuries and Unavailability:
- Obed McCoy has been ruled out of the World Cup and Jason Holder replaces him from the reserves list of West Indies. Holder has had an impressive IPL and has been contributing at pockets in the size of a big dynamite at situations when needed.
Pitch Report:
Sharjah stadium is known for entertainment in the form of high scoring matches and usually supports batting second. While it was the opposite in this year’s second half of IPL, it came back to its originality in the game of Afghanistan against Scotland. Being a day game, it may open up for the bowlers and may get us to an evenly poised game of cricket.
