Exactly a week ago South Africans were humbled by the Dutch at Delhi. South Africa then came back with a statement of a performance against England. On the other hand apart from the first game against Afghanistan, there is nothing to show for Bangladesh. They have been playing for more than 2 decades at the highest level but still have not found their rhythm at the bigger stages.
South Africa
The wins that they are pulling off are really scary and have made it pretty clear that they mean business. They had a hiccup against the Netherlands but that didn't dent their confidence. In fact that made them even stronger to put up a score of 399 against England. They won the game by 229 runs. They are all but sure to make it to the semis. Game against Bangladesh would be a feast for their batters at Wankhede.
Bangladesh: Bangladesh are all but knocked out of the competition. They would look for damage limitations against South Africa who would be waiting to cement their position in the semis.
Player to watch out for
Quinton De Kock: He missed out on a belter at Wankhede last time against England when all other batters had made merry. He has already hit 2 tons in the competition and would be looking for his 3rd. South Africans have been off to a flier in their games because of him who sets the tempo for the middle order.
Mehidy Hasan Miraz: He hit the ground running in their world cup opener against Afghanistan but has blown hot and cold since then. With Shakib missing the last game and we are not sure if he is back in this game, a lot will depend on Miraz if Bangladesh are to show any improvement.
Probable Playing 11 (South Africa): Temba Bavuma (c), Quinton de Kock (wk), Rassie van der Dussen, Aiden Markram, Heinrich Klaasen, David Miller, Marco Jansen, Kagiso Rabada, Keshav Maharaj, Gerald Coetzee, Lungi Ngidi
Probable Playing 11 (Bangladesh): Tanzid Hasan, Litton Das, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Najmul Hossain Shanto, Shakib Al Hasan (c), Mushfiqur Rahim (wk), Towhid Hridoy, Mahmudullah, Shoriful Islam, Tanzim Hasan, Mustafizur Rahman.
Updates:
Captain Temba, who missed out on the last match, is likely to return today.
Captain Shakib Al Hasan will be fit and available for this match.
Interesting stats and facts:
This will be Bangladesh's first match at the Wankhede Stadium since 1998 and also only their second game at this venue
Bangladesh has won the last 2 ODI series between these both sides (Home and Away), they also have won the 2019 CWC encounter between them.
Weather and Pitch report: It will be 37 celsius degrees, players will feel the heat, in the last match dew didn't exist at all. Expect another high scoring game, team batting second will have the upper hand, though we back South Africa to grab 2 more points.
