Friends , hope you all have been reading our pre auction previews.2022 IPL auctions is just hours away and here we are with the pre auction review of the most successful IPL team - Mumbai Indians.
History :
The market value of Mumbai Indians was high since it's inception as the team had the India's biggest sporting icon Sachin Tendulkar as it's icon player. The team is owned by arguably India's biggest business tycoon Mukesh Ambani. Over the years , legendary players like Sanath Jayasuriya, Shaun Pollock, Ricky Ponting, Rohit Sharma, Lasith Malinga, Kieron Pollard, Harbhajan Singh, Yuvraj Singh etc. have represented them. Their coaching and support staffs too have been star studded always with the likes of Mahela Jayawardene, Ricky Ponting, Jhonty Rhodes, Anil Kumble, Shane Bond, Robin Singh, John Wright, Shaun Pollock etc.
In January 2008, the BCCI unveiled the owners of eight city-based franchises. The Mumbai franchise was sold to the Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) for $111.9 million, making it the most expensive team to be sold in the league. RIL, owned by Mukesh Ambani acquired the rights to the franchise for a period of 10 years.
In 2017, the Mumbai Indians became the first franchise to cross the $100 million mark in brand value among the IPL franchises. The brand value of Mumbai Indians, in 2019, is estimated to be around ₹809 crore (roughly $115 million), the highest among all the IPL franchises for the fourth consecutive year.
The motto of the team is "Duniya Hila Denge Hum...", which translates to We will rock the world. The team logo is the Sudarshan Chakra (or Razor).
The team's primary colour is blue with golden stripes on either sides of the jersey. The team colours was almost the same in 2008 and 2009, with Idea as the principal sponsor, except for the colour shade and additional sponsors. In 2010, a new kit with golden stripes was unveiled. In 2011, kit used in 2010 was being used with Hero Honda as the main sponsor. The 2011 jersey also has three gold stripes going towards the back on the side of the jersey for the new players in the team. The kit manufacturer was Adidas from the start of IPL in 2008 till 2014. In 2015, Performax, an in-house brand of Reliance Trends, replaced Adidas as the kit manufacturer.
Mumbai Indians have so far featured in 204 IPL games , winning 120 and losing 83.

RETAINED PLAYERS IN IPL 2022:
The biggest headache for Mumbai Indians going into the 2022 auctions was who should they retain and who should they release as their team had many top performers. Finally they zeroed in on these 4 players :
Rohit Sharma (16 cr)
Jasprit Bumrah (12 cr)
Suryakumar Yadav (8 cr)
Kieron Pollard (6 cr)
Rohit Sharma:
Retaining him was a no brainer as he led his team to 5 IPL titles. He also has been a succesful batsman in the tournament with 5611 runs (3rd highest by any player).
Jasprit Bumrah:
Arguably the best white ball bowler in world cricket at the moment , he has been an asset for Mumbai Indians. He has so far picked up 130 wickets in IPL with a miserly economy of 7.42.
Suryakumar Yadav:
He was picked up by Mumbai Indians in 2018 and made full use of the opportunity. He had very mediocre stint with KKR , where he batted mostly in lower order. Mumbai Indians used him in top order and he did not disappoint. He racked up 1733 runs for them in these 4 seasons at an average of 32.09 and a healthy strike rate of 137.10.
Kieron Pollard:
Kieron Pollard have represented the Mumbai Indians since 2010 and have arguably been their biggest match winner. He has amassed 3268 runs at an average of almost 30. But the striking factor is that he has got all these runs at a brilliant strike rate of 149.77. He also has 65 wickets to his name and is one of the best fielders the game of cricket has ever seen.

Players to target in auction:
Mumbai Indians will be looking to get many of the players back , whom they released before the auction. The batting core is almost set for them and is likely to go big for bowlers.
Here's a list of players we feel MI can go after :
Batters :
David Warner:
One of the best batsman in IPL could be the one Mumbai India will likely to have. With Rohit Sharma opening with him, the right hand - left hand combo can do wonders.
Faf du Plessis:
One of the most consistent batsman in the shorter formats , Faf du Plessis has been a key man behind the success of Chennai Super Kings. If Mumbai Indians can get him , they need not bother about stability in top order.
Rassie van der Dussen:
One of the best limited over batsman in the world , Rassie can be an ideal batter to partner Kieron Pollard in the middle and death overs.
Rahul Tripathi:
One of the best Indian batsman in IPL last year , he can be one of the regular Indian picks in the playing 11 if Mumbai Indians buy him.
Other Options:
Evin Lewis , Shimron Hetmyer , Shahrukh Khan
Pacers:
Jofra Archer:
This man can breathe fire with the ball and is an asset for any team he plays. But there are some concerns with his fitness and he would not be available until the 2023 season.
Trent Boult:
He has previously played for Mumbai Indians and has been a good performer for them. He was at his best in the 2020 IPL picking up 25 wickets.
Kagiso Rabada:
The South African speedster was part of the Delhi Capitals in last few seasons and was a big reason for their turnaround in IPL.With Jasprit Bumrah already there , Bumrah-Rabada duo can give sleepless nights to the opponents.
Other Options:
Harshal Patel , Pat Cummins , Lockie Ferguson
Spinners:
Rahul Chahar:
He has so far represented the Mumbai Indians and they will be looking to have him back to keep the winning core intact.
Ravichandran Ashwin;
One of the smartest bowlers going around and is a decent pick in any T20 side. If the Mumbai can get in a spinner, an off spinner like him will make the spin department complete.
Other Options:
Imran Tahir , Kuldeep Yadav
Wicket Keepers:
Ishan Kishan:
He is likely to be Mumbai Indians' first choice given that he has represented them in the last few seasons. He can play in any position and be explosive. Also playing him as an Indian keeper will allow them to make the bowling strong with one more overseas recruit.
Jonny Bairstow:
One of the best strikers of the ball in limited overs cricket , he can be good pick for the Mumbai Indians
Other Options:
Dinesh Karthik , Quinton de Kock
All Rounder:
Jason Holder:
He has been in good form recently and can be perfect pick for Mumbai Indians
Mohammad Nabi:
He can be a effective option in the batting department and also he is someone who can bowl his full quota of overs in every match with good returns.
Other Options:
Dwayne Bravo , Krunal Pandya , Washington Sundar , Shardul Thakur
