RUBY ON TOP AFTER FINAL LEAGUE STAGE WIN
Whenever you are in a position to seal things in style, you won’t miss the opportunity to do so. That too against a two time champion whom you would meet in two days, no matter what a win or loss, but finishing first in the points table in the league stage gives one a psychological advantage to put extra effort to qualify for the final stages. This was prevalent in the final league match of the season between Ruby Trichy Warriors and Chepauk Super Gillies.
Chepauk Gillies won the toss and elected to bat first. They had one change in S Radhakrishnan coming in for S Sujay and Ruby Warriors had one change in Sunil Sam for Poiyamozhi. Openers K Gandhi and Jagadeesan started for Chepauk Super Gillies while Sunil Sam started the proceedings in bowling for RTW. Things were kept tight by Sunil Sam and Saravana Kumar in the first two overs before K Gandhi unleashed a four off Sunil Sam in his second over through the point region. But he perished the next ball caught by A Sumra at mid off. S Radhakrishnan joined Jagadeesan in the middle. Radhakrishnan took on Saravana Kumar in his second over flicking to the fence over square leg. He had a reprieve two balls later when the fielder at short fine leg was late to pick the chance offered by Radhakrishnan.
Radhakrishnan then unleashed himself and hit two blistering fours off Sunil Sam in his third over accounting about 10 runs to his team. CSG ended the PP on 35/1. Rahil Shah came after the powerplay to dismiss the dangerous customer Jagadeesan caught by keeper Adithya Ganesh. U Sasidev joined Radhakrishnan in the middle. But the over wasn’t over as Sasidev was run out in the last ball of the over albeit a herculean effort by Muhammad Adnan Khan. CSG was tattering at 39/3 in 8 overs. Jaganath Sinivas joined Radhakrishnan in the middle. The duo were rotating the strike and hitting boundaries at intervals until Mathivannan came and applied brakes to their partnership dismissing Jaganath Sinivas caught by Mhd Adnan Khan. Harish Kumar joined Radhakrishnan in the middle. The duo added some runs before Anthony DHas picked Harish Kumar with the batter offering himself to Santosh Shiv at backward point. R Satish joined Radhakrishnan in the middle and the duo slapped Anthony Dhas with two fours in the same over. The duo were tapping runs and striking boundaries before Saravana Kumar came for his second spell and dismissed both the set batters in the same over, caught by Rahil Shah and Mathivannan respectively. Sai Kishore and Sonu Yadav were the new batters in the middle and the tail of CSG was tamed by the RTW bowlers giving 20 runs and picking the last three wickets. CSG ended on 132 all out in their 20 overs.
Next came the RTW openers Santosh Shiv and Amit Sathvik with Jaganath Sinivas opening the bowling for CSG. Santosh Shiv was quick to start things with a four and a six off Sinivas’s first over making a brisk start to the innings. Amit Sathvik too slashed M Siddharth to the fence off the second over before he was dismissed by Sai Kishore by foxing the batter and Jagadeesan clipping the bails in a flash. Nidish Rajagopal joined Santosh Shiv in the middle. The duo struck boundaries with aplomb and also ensured they rotated the strike to keep the scoreboard ticking. RTW were 40/1 at the end of the powerplay.
Just when the partnership was developing and inching towards a 50- run partnership, spinner R Alexander came and applied brakes by dismissing Santosh Shiv caught by M Siddharth. Adithya Ganesh joined Nidish Rajagopal in the middle. Nidish Rajagopal took on R Alexander in the 10th over when he hoisted him for a six and slashed two to the fence accounting about 15 runs to his team total in the chase. The duo were controlled by the CSG bowlers keeping things tight and not allowing them to hit boundaries and only allow them to rotate the strike before Nidish broke the shackles by hitting two boundaries off Harish Kumar in the 14th over. Alexander was again treated with warm hands by Ganesh and Nidish hitting him for a six and four accounting another 16 runs from him in the 15th over. The 75 run partnership was dismantled by captain K Gandhi who came to bowl in the 17th over making Adithya Ganesh step out only to find the keeper clip out the bails. Nidish Rajagopal finally cut K Gandhi to the fence in the last over to ensure Ruby Trichy Warriors ended on top in the league stage.
