Battle of the North vs South. Battle of the wits. Battle of the top half and the bottom half of the table. Delhi and Sunrisers Hyderabad would face off in the interesting battle for the weekend as the win today would have SRH go to the top 2 / DC into the top 5. It’s going to be interesting today as there would be more masala added to the match happening at one of the most iconic and old stadiums of the country, Arun Jaitley Stadium, previously named as the Ferozshah Kotla.
Delhi Capitals:
After drubbing Gujarat Titans to their lowest total in the history of IPL, Delhi Capitals would be pumping up big time to progress big in the tournament. After facing initial losses, they have pulled up their socks and are raring to prove their worth which they have not been able to prove in the previous editions. The full Indian bowling line-up is doing wonders for the team and they would love to stick to the same combination. Jake Fraser McGurk’s addition is doing good for the team as he is proving his worth. The only intriguing question is why their costliest buy this edition in Kumar Kushagra is not being used as he just played only one ball and got dismissed and has then not been provided another chance in the playing XI. Pant’s return has been doing good for the team in the batting but his decisions behind the stumps is questionable, hope he takes wise decisions in the reviews being asked.
Probable XI:
Prithvi Shaw, Jake Fraser McGurk*, Rishabh Pant (C & WK), Shai Hope*, Tristan Stubbs*, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Sumit Kumar, Mukesh Kumar, Ishant Sharma, Khaleel Ahmed
Impact Subs: Abhishek Porel / Kumar Kushagra
Sunrisers Hyderabad:
The men in orange are proving who they are in the tournament and are one of the favourites to keep their hands on the trophy again. Captain Cummins has been the missing puzzle for them for the past few years and the attitude he has instilled in the team is more appreciable. The team is firing in all departments and there is hardly any mistake being made. Travis Head, who silenced the Indian crowd 6 months, has not forgotten the same of silencing the opposition crowd as he has been in his form of his life and has been bludgeoning the opposition bowlers. The way he took the RCB bowlers to the docks shows how he is determined to take his team past the finish line without sweating much for the others. Abhishek Sharma is also tagging with Travis Head and ensuring that the starts being given are smooth and strong. Klassen, the rising star and the current destructive T20 batter is also in his Midas touch and would be waiting to take on the DC bowlers today.
Probable XI:
Travis Head*, Abhishek Sharma, Heinrich Klassen (WK)*, Aiden Markram*, Nitish Reddy, Abdul Samad, Shahbaz Ahmed, Pat Cummins (C)*, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Jaydev Unadkat, T Natarajan
Impact Subs: Mayank Markande / Umran Malik
Weather and Pitch Report:
As DC contest their first home match at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, it will be interesting to see how the pitch behaves in the initial stages of the league. The ground is known to have undergone several transformations before the World Cup 2023 and has become a batting-friendly one as opposed to its slow and spinning nature. However, in the 85 matches played at this venue 46 matches have been won by teams batting second.
The average 1st innings score at Arun Jaitley Stadium since IPL 2023 is 175.
