SPINNING A WEB AROUND THE PANTHERS
The speciality of a spider is to create its web time and again it is being destroyed and it’s patience is the key for its success. The same is for the Chepauk Super Gillies who heavily bank upon their spinners and they always spin a web around their opposition and provide the success for their team.
Chepauk won the toss and elected to field first. They had few changes in Alexander coming back for S Sujay. Madurai Panthers had Kiran Akash back for Deeban Lingesh. Openers Praveen Kumar and Sugenthiran started for the Madurai franchise and M Siddharth opened the bowling for CSG. Praveen Kumar started quickly by hoisting a six and a four of consecutive balls in the first over. But he soon perished albeit a quick ball by M Siddharth rattling his bails. Anirudh Sita Ram joined Sugendhiran in the middle. The duo tapped some runs before Siddharth came back dismissing Sugendhiran caught comfortably by Sai Kishore in deep mid wicket. Madurai captain NS Chaturved joined Anirudh Sita Ram in the middle and struck his second ball to the boundary. Siddharth was more hungry for wickets and he quickly removed Anirudh Sita Ram and KB Arun Karthick, the former offering himself to Sai Kishore for a comfortable catch and the latter having his stumps rattled. Both Anirudh and KB Arun Karthick tapped some runs with Chaturved but could not build partnership with the captain Chaturved. The spin trio of M Siddharth, R Alexander and Sai Kishore kept things in control and did not allow the SMP batters to go for runs berserk.
J Kousik joined Chaturved in the middle and after a long hiatus, Chaturved broke the shackles and hoisted a six off R Alexander. Chaturved also took on Sai Kishore and Sonu Yadav and slotted them to the boundaries and to the stands. J Kousik was soon dismissed by Sai Kishore, stunningly caught by Sonu Yadav at the boundary. Kiran Akash joined Chaturved in the middle. Chaturved took on Sandeep Warrier and hit for two consecutive fours and reached his half century. Sandeep Warrieri struck back dismissing Kiran Akash plumb before the stumps. V Gowtham joined Chaturved in the middle. The duo hit some blows to the boundaries and also tapped some runs in the middle. Chaturved was castled by Sonu Yadav in the 18th over, making his middle stump take a walk. R Silamabarasan joined Gowtham in the middle. Gowtham was on run out and the next batter B Rocky was dismissed by Sonu Yadav off the last over. Madurai Panthers finished on 124/9 in 20 overs
Next came the CSG openers, N Jagadeesan and captain K Gandhi with R Silambarasan opening the bowling for Madurai. K Gandhi started the proceedings for the CSG team with two fours to the fence. Jagadeesan joined the party by slashing two to the fence off K Akash in his first and fourth ball before he was dismissed, caught by Rocky. J Sinivas joined K Gandhi in the middle. The CSG captain has been in great form and was continuing the same from the last match, dispatching at intervals and rotating the strike. He took on spinner Rocky and pacer Gowtham V and slashed them to the fence. J Sinivas was dismissed by Rocky, caught comfortably by J Kousik.
U Sasidev joined K Gandhi and the duo ensured they kept the scoreboard ticking by rotating the strike and hitting boundaries. Just when their partnership was developing, Aushik Srinivas came and applied brakes to their partnership dismissing Sasidev by rattling off his stumps. Sai Kishore joined K Gandhi in the middle and he stitched a small partnership before he was dismissed by Gowtham caught by Aushik Srinivas. On the other hand, K Gandhi hit some boundaries and reached his half century. Soon, K Gandhi was dismissed by R Silambarasan caught by Sugendhiran. Harish Kumar joined Satish in the middle and soon the duo ensured the team crossed the finish line comfortably with 5 wickets in hand.
