Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) is an IPL team which represents the Indian city of Hyderabad. Founded in 2012, SRH came in place of the now-defunct Deccan Chargers. SRH is owned by the media conglomerate SUN group, headed by Kalanithi Maran.
Sunrisers Hyderabad played its first season in IPL 2013 and won its first title in IPL 2016, by beating Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) by 8 runs in final. Sunrisers Hyderabad is the only team to make the IPL playoffs 5 times in a row (2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020).
Players Retained: -
SRH has retained just 3 players, namely batter Kane Williamson for INR 14 Crs. as captain, all rounder Abdul Samad for INR 4 Crs. and fast bowler Umran Malik for INR 4 Crs.
They have bought 20 more players to build their squad strength of 23 players.
Day-1 of the IPL 2022 Auction: -
Sunrisers Hyderabad made several unconventional selections such as selecting their former players Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Abhishek Sharma and Priyam Garg on Day-1 considering their poor form over last 2 seasons.
First, they bought Washington Sundar for INR 8.75 Crs, followed it up with Nicholas Pooran for INR 10.75 Crs, topped it up with buying back Bhuvneshwar Kumar for INR 4.2 Crs, T. Natarajan for INR 4 Crs and Priyam Garg for INR 20 Lakhs. They aced it up further with stealing Rahul Tripathi for INR 8.5 Crs, got back middle order sensation Abhishek Sharma for INR 6.5 Crs., pocketed Vishnu Vinod for INR 50 Lakhs, riveted Kartik Tyagi for INR 4 Crs., Shreyas Gopal for INR 75 Lakh and J. Suchith for INR 20 Lakh.
Day-2 of the IPL 2022 Auction: -
Day-2 was better than Day-1 where they had made some valuable purchases as per the requirement and also made some steals, notably buying South Africa’s left-arm fast bowling sensation, Marco Jansen for just INR 4.2 Crs.
First, they bought Aiden Markram for INR 2.6 Crs. followed by Marco Jansen for INR 4.2 Crs., Romario Shepherd for INR 7.75 Crs., Glenn Philips for INR 1.5 Crs., Fazalhaq Farooqi for INR 50 Lakhs, Sean Abbott for INR 2.4 Crs., R. Overall, the auction was good for them if not the best, considering they had to let go of a premier wicket-keeper batter like Ishan Kishan after he was getting more expensive to buy. But given their penchant to rely more on low profile players and having more bowlers, it seems that SRH will recreate their bowling magic once again.
