Jofra Archer's international career started in May 2019. His career graph went sky high when he won England the World Cup with his super over. It went further up when he had a successful Ashes in the same year.
Since then, the only competitive tournament he played is the 2020 IPL. He picked up an injury in his right elbow at the start of 2020.After which he has not been a regular pick for England owing injury concerns. He was sent back home for treatment in the middle of the tour against India to remove a glass fragment from a tendon in his right hand, an injury he sustained in January when an attempt to clean his fish tank went wrong. Archer was ruled out of IPL 2021 which was suspended in May. After a month, he was back on the field bowling for his county team in a First-Class game but again the same injury exaggerated and he had to pull off as he felt uncomfortable on the same arm due to which he missed the home series against New Zealand, Sri Lanka, Pakistan and the ongoing one against India apart from missing out on the inaugural season of England's flagship franchise based tournament 'The Hundred'.Image Courtesy: InsideSport
To make all of it from bad to worse, he is all set to miss the T20 World Cup and the all important Ashes later this year. ECB also confirmed that he'll remain unavailable till the end of 2021 atleast. This long break for Archer might open the gates for players like Ollie Robinson, Saqib Mahmood, Tymal Mills in Tests and T20I respectively. With the 5 wicket haul against India recently, Robinson might have cemented his spot in the XI as he has also performed well against New Zealand. Saqib Mahmood has impressed everyone in the limited opportunities he has got for England so far and will look to capitalize further on it. Tymal Mills also came into the international arena with great expectations but he got injured and ultimately disappeared from the international arena but now he is back among the wickets in the Vitality Blast, and though his pace has dropped but it is still effective enough to earn him a place in England's T20 XI.Image Courtesy: The Telegraph
